Actually I recommend putting a swedish fish into a water bowl in the fridge overnight.

You could, but I’m not sure that’d have the same result. I would be interested in seeing it though.

I did that for a buddy’s birthday once in college because they loved Swedish Fish. The end result was gross, slimy, white, sloughing away Swedish Fish and some mildly flavored vodka filled with half-disintegrated gummy chunks.

          It was… not delicious

If they are like any other gummy candy, they’ll puff up and absorb a decent amount of alcohol.

Tried it once, the Swedish fish mostly disintegrated and left me with slimy half disintegrated vodka flavored Swedish fish and some mildy flavored opaque vodka filled with little gummy chunks. Not my favorite!

Is doing that and forgetting about the fish for 6 months how Surströmming is created?

I recommend putting them in vodka overnight.
